Year 6 School Journey 2022

We are delighted to announce that we are organising a fantastic residential trip with The Bushcraft Company for Year 6 for summer 2022.  After having to cancel the previous two Year 6 residential trips, we have taken the decision to diverge from our traditional destination of the Isle of Wight and instead will be travelling to Boughton Woods – private woodland near Kettering in Northamptonshire for a camping adventure!

This residential trip will take place from Wednesday 18th May until Friday 20th May (three days, two nights) just after the children’s SATs week.  It will involve travelling by coach – an expense which the Trust is covering – and staying for three days at the site.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided.

We will have exclusive use of a woodland safari-style camp and be guided by a highly qualified and responsible team.  This is an exciting opportunity for students to learn through adventure in a safe, yet challenging environment.  The adventure activities we will be taking part in are designed to develop leadership skills and resilience, demanding resourcefulness, decision-making and practical thinking from students.   Examples of the planned activities may include archery, survival skills and shelter building.  See the company’s website for more information:

Cost and Payment

The cost of this trip is £130 for each child and the school is requesting a parental contribution of this amount for each child to ensure this trip can go ahead.  Families in receipt of free school meals or who have previously been entitled to free school meals are offered a 50% discount and this will be applied when you come to make payment.  If you are unsure as to whether this applies to your child please get in touch with Suzanne Christopher on the number given below.  In order to secure a place for your child, we request a non-refundable deposit of £30 (£15 for those entitled to a discount).  In order to help us understand the demand for this trip please ensure you pay your deposit promptly to save your child’s place.  Payments will go live on ‘Magic Booking’ at 11am on Saturday 11th December and anyone needing support with this can text (please do not call) Suzanne Christopher, our Extended Schools Leader, on 07504 810956.  You will then be asked to pay instalments with payment complete by 29th April 2022.

More information

There will be a virtual meeting at 5:30pm on Thursday 16th December where you can find out more information about the trip.  If you haven’t made a decision on whether you want your child to attend the residential trip, this meeting is a good opportunity to have your questions answered.  Please log-in promptly as a lot of important information will be shared, using the following link:  https://meet.google.com/tsk-fzvh-gkz which you can access via the Google Meet app or via your web browser.  The meeting will be recorded for those who cannot attend.  If you have any questions, please ask your child’s class teacher or contact your Head of School.
