CYP Lower – Road Safety Week

We’ve had another busy and productive week at Cypress Lower School.  During our celebration assembly today, we praised children who have been awarded Rainbow certificates during the week.  We also shared the winners from our Word of the Week – well done to Cassius and Amani!  Next week our Word of the Week is freezing so please encourage your child to write a sentence and post it into the golden box for a chance to win a special rosette.

Road Safety Week

This week we have been thinking about how to stay safe on the roads.  Mrs Jerman led a very informative assembly on Monday reminding us of the Green Cross Code and how to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN before we cross roads.  Today we have all been wearing brightly coloured t-shirts for ‘Road Safe-TEE Day’ to raise awareness of being visible when travelling, especially in the Winter months when it gets dark earlier.  We have a Brighten Your Bag competition running until 3rd December where children can win prizes for finding creative ways to brighten their bag to help them be more visible to other road users.  Speak to your class teacher if you need further details.

Learning about Diwali

This week we were treated to a visit from Nabhi who taught us all about how people from the Hindu faith celebrate Diwali.  He led a fantastic assembly for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 which is the first time we’ve had everyone together in the hall for an assembly!  The children listened and joined in so respectfully and we were all so proud of their brilliant manners.  Nabhi then led a workshop for Year 2 where children learnt about Diwali and the Hindu faith in more depth.

Christmas is coming!

We sent a letter home earlier in the week with details of our upcoming Christmas performances in each year group.  Click here for the letter if you missed it.  The children (and staff!) are working so hard and rehearsals are in full swing and we can’t wait to welcome families into school.  We politely request that all adults wear a face covering, unless they are exempt.

PTFA update

Please also remember that the greatly anticipated PTFA Winter Fair is on Friday 3rd December in the Lower School Hall.  Tickets can be purchased here and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone.  If you are available to help then please sign up on the website.  Disco letters for Year 1 and Year 2 are being sent home soon so please keep an eye out for these.  You will also receive a raffle ticket letter next week, so please return these together with the money to the school office.

We hope everyone has a brilliant weekend and look forward to seeing you all back in school on Monday.
