CYP: Weekly news update

It has been another busy and productive week at Cypress and the children have all been working hard and making good progress in their learning.

Willow Class Assembly

Willow class kicked our week off at the Upper School with a very comical skit about Crime and Punishment for this week’s class assembly.  The children’s costumes, acting skills and clear voices were magnificent (watch out West End, Willow class might steal a show!).  The very catchy song left us in a very positive manner and humming away for the rest if the day.  Well done Willow!  A big thank you to Mrs Yeboah for all your hard work in helping the children prepare for their assembly.

Word of the Week

This week’s winner was Maxwell in Lime Class who wrote a wonderful sentence using the word ‘deluge’.  This week’s word is ‘robust‘.  Please put your entries in the box outside the office to be in with a chance of winning.  At the Lower School, Niamh and Dani-Elrod won for using ‘blossom‘ in great sentences.  Next week our word is ‘chance‘.

Cypress Superstars

Congratulations to Lucy, Maya and Kitty who came to visit the office with their excellent Spanish work describing their families.  I was very impressed with the standard of their written work and pronunciation.  Mohamed in Birch Class has made excellent progress in his phonics this week and was able to share all his learning with us.

Well done to Jaydah in Reception for learning all her number bonds to 10 this week – what amazing maths skills!  Marcel, Finley, Milana, Daphne, Daniel, Aidan, Charlotte and Isobel have written detailed non-chronological reports this week about snakes, using sub-headings and plenty of interesting facts to engage the reader.  We’ve seen some superstar scientists in Year 1, so well done to Leon, Bertie, Rose and Antonio for their detailed conclusions after growing a bean plant.  Rufus, Tallulah and Matipa in Year 1 have worked hard to find 1 more or 1 less than a 2-digit number.  Finally, Finley and Frank in Year 2 have shared some great science work this week demonstrating their understanding of life processes.  Harish in Green class made a fantastic water buffalo as part of his thematic homework learning about Africa.  We are so impressed!

Well-being Ambassadors

Our new ambassadors at the Upper School had their first meeting with Mrs Yeboah and Miss Prideaux this week.  They are going to be completing some work in their classes leading ‘Circle Time’ and are very much looking forward to getting started in their new role.

Year 6 Author Visit

We had a fantastic workshop about poetry from Lorraine Simon in Year 6 today.  She talked about how she finds inspiration for her poetry and read from her book, ‘The Streetwise Kid’.  It was great for the children to think about the choices they will have to make when it comes to their transition to secondary school.

Crystal Palace Festival

Crystal Palace Festival are running a Talent Show  for Primary School Students and a Family Disco.  The event takes place between 5:30pm and 8:00pm on Friday 9th June at Anerley Town Hall.  Does your child love performing?  Don’t miss this chance for them to take part in this fun talent show to celebrate the Crystal Palace Community Trust’s work with the local community.  There’s a prize pot for the winner!  Just £2 per child entry fee payable on the night – performers can be solo or in groups. We wish all our children and families a relaxing weekend.
