CYP Lower – Gold Awards for our Resilient Learners and celebrating Black History Month

We can’t believe how quickly this half term has flown by!  Our new children in EYFS have settled so quickly it’s as though they’ve been at Cypress for much longer than 6 weeks.  We’ve all learnt so much this half term and enjoyed some fantastic learning experiences.

Gold Award – Resilient Learner

Every half term we celebrate two children from every class who are chosen to receive a Gold Award during assembly.  This half term children have been selected for demonstrating they are resilient learners, which we have been learning about during our school BLP assemblies.  Congratulations to the following children who have been sent home with a very special certificate today.  They will also feature on our Gold Award display in the school hall for the next half term.

Celebrating Black History Month

We have had a great time celebrating Black History Month.  Children have been busy in class learning about inspirational Black people such as Ruby Bridges, Marcus Rashford and Betty Coleman and enjoying reading books from different Black authors.  We enjoyed a special assembly on Monday led by Mr Spoerer who played us his Djembe drums and taught us about his experiences living in some African countries.  Every day this week we have enjoyed a storytelling session listening to ‘Billy and the Beast’, ‘Coming to England’ and ‘Baby goes to Market’ to name a few.  Mrs Enahoro has recorded a video of her reading ‘Sulwe’ written by Lupita Nyong’o which we hope you enjoy watching at home.

Hampton Court

Our Year 2 classes had a fantastic day out visiting Hampton Court this week.  They had the chance to explore the Palace and gardens and take part in a brilliant workshop led by Lady Anne, a lady in waiting from Henry VIII’s court, where they explored artefacts from rich and poor households and even learnt a Tudor dance.  The children’s behaviour was exemplary and we were all so proud of them for representing our school so wonderfully.  Thank you to our parent volunteers for their help and to our staff for organising a wonderful experience for our year 2 children.

Forest School after half term

Children enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the bonfire this week to celebrate their final Forest School session.  After half term our Forest School timetable is changing.  The following classes will have Forest School on Wednesdays so should come to school wearing appropriate clothing: Orange class (Reception), Yellow class (Reception) and Violet class (Year 2).

Parent MAC nominations for Cypress Primary School

We have received 6 nominations for the vacancy of Parent MAC and it’s been great to have such positive interest!  Thank you to those parents who have put themselves forward.  A ballot will now be arranged and after half term a letter will be sent home to all Cypress families with further details.

We hope everyone enjoys a very happy and safe half term break and look forward to welcoming all of our families back on Thursday 4th November.
