CYP Lower – Fun in the sun!

Everyone’s had a spring in their step this week as we’ve finally welcomed the glorious sunshine!  We’ve been taking the opportunity to be outside as much as possible and enjoy the wonderful grounds we have here at Cypress.  Please remember to label your child’s jumpers and cardigans as this is now the time of year where unlabelled clothing tends to go missing.

Well done to all the children who received Rainbow certificates today and to Makai and Antonio for winning a Word of the Week rosette.  Next week our word is awesome!

The children in Reception have been undertaking litter picks around the field, adventure playground, on our patios and play areas this week as part of their learning about caring for our planet and environment.  They have been reading ‘Clean Up’ by Nathan Bryon, which draws attention to the amount of plastic that is found in the sea and on beaches and the damage that can do to wildlife and their habitats.  The children were also thrilled to welcome firefighters from the Woodside Fire Station on Friday afternoon, who talked to the children about the important role they play in keeping people safe.  The children had a tour around the fire engine, learnt what to do if there was a fire and all had the chance to squirt the hose!

Our Year 1 children have been reading ‘Chalk’ by Bill Thompson and making very thoughtful predictions about the story.  After reading the story they have then reflected on whether their predictions were accurate.  We have seen some fantastic writing from Ted, Ida, Kobi and Ari this week – well done!  We are also really proud of our Year 2 children this week for their fabulous writing.  They have been writing alternative versions of ‘The Iron Man’, following a clear story structure and using lots of adjectives, adverbs and some exciting punctuation.  Great work!

Well done to Indigo class for their fabulous class assembly this week, where they’d learnt five poems and performed these with great expression and enthusiasm.  Please click here to read more and see some of their photos.

All of our children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are having Reading Practice lessons three times each week with a trained adult.  Please remember that you can access the book they have been reading in school by logging in to Collins eBooks via the link here.  You will find your child’s login details inside their reading diary – ask your child’s class teacher if you need any support.

Remember, the PTFA Spring Fair is next Friday 1st April and will be held at the Upper School.  Everyone’s welcome!  Please click here to see the letter which will be sent home by the PTFA over the next few days.

We hope that everyone has a fabulous weekend and enjoys the beautiful sunshine.
