CYP – Cypress News Friday 3rd July

We have had a very busy week at Cypress with school trips, productions and Sports events taking place.

At the Upper School, we have been focusing on using creative thinking to help us with our learning.  We have been using curiosity, imagination, problem solving and making connections to help us in our learning this week.  This has helped the children achieve their goals this week.

At the Lower School, Miss Hunt has led assembly twice this week talking to the children about the World Cup and national ‘tell a joke day’.  We’ve also had Turquoise and Ruby class visiting Brighton beach, the Year 1 PTFA disco, Year 2 enjoying watching the Year 6 production and Sports Day!  It’s been a full-on week at the Lower School and we’re looking forward to enjoying the remaining couple of weeks of the summer term.

The Great Sunflower Showdown: The Results are in!

After weeks of careful nurturing, our inter-class sunflower competition has come to an incredibly close finish. We are so proud of all our young gardeners!
Here are the final standings:

*   1st Place: Massive congratulations to Beech Class, our official sunflower champions!
*   Runner-Up: Holly Class put on an impressive effort, finishing just behind the leaders.
*   3rd Place: Willow Class secured a fantastic third-place finish.
*   Special Mention: A big shout-out to Birch Class! While not the tallest, they grew the only sunflower to successfully flower!

The competition may be over, but our sunflowers have now been safely planted in the school garden, where they are reaching for the sun and brightening up our outdoor space. Thank you to the Eco Squad and everyone who took part!

Key Stage 2 Oracy Debates

As part of their current learning, the children have spent time in their classes preparing arguments and practicing their oracy skills for a whole year group debate.

When they finally came together for the big debate, each year group was absolutely brilliant. It was wonderful to see them demonstrating how to debate respectfully. Children listened carefully to different opinions, used strong evidence to back up their points, and responded thoughtfully to counter-arguments.

The children had a wonderful time. It was a joy to see them speak with such confidence, enthusiasm, and maturity.

A huge well done to everyone involved!

Year 6: Pet Side Story

Our Year 6 pupils have blown us away with their talent this week.  We have had 3 performances of their end of year production Pet Side Story. The children have shown impressive resilience and collaboration skills.  The level of performance has been exceptional including solos, movement and wonderful acting and storytelling.  Well done to our Year 6 children and staff for your hard work and dedication to making this such a success.  A special thank you to Mrs Wayman for your wonderful work on this!  What a wonderful group of talented children we have!

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Jack, Eddie and Bertie in Rowan Class who came to show their new yellow belts.  Ms Binks really enjoyed hearing about what skills you had to demonstrate and the movement words you have learnt in Korean.  Congratulations to Aiyla in Rowan Class who had made a wonderful model of an Anglos-Saxon house as part of her thematic home learning.  She could explain all about how houses were made at this time.

Well done to everyone at the Lower School for their amazing efforts in Sports Day.  We have some skilled athletes in our midst!  We have had some amazing writing in Year 1 this week as children have been writing their own facts about lions.  Huge well done to Wilfred, Alvin-Jace, Milica, Dennis, Sky, Myles and Elias for their hard work and fabulous writing, with many of them using their sounds, interesting adjectives and neat handwriting.

Hot weather reminders

Please ensure children come to school each day wearing a high SPF sun cream, have filled water bottles and suitable sun hats.  We will encourage children to take ‘hydration breaks’ during the day and refill their bottles.  On warmer days we maximise the use of cooler areas across the school sites such as the Upper School garden and Forest School at Lower.

We wish all our children and families a relaxing weekend.

Ms Binks, Mrs Sorensen and the Cypress Team
