This week, we are extremely proud of our Year 6 learners who worked so hard in their end of key stage SATs and managed to stay fully focused even during Wednesday’s hail storm.

In Reception, this week the children have been enjoying looking after the ducklings.

In English this week, Year 1 have published the Tinga Tinga Tales they have written. They will share them with their Parents/Carers at our next reading cafè. The children started the week off in maths by counting on within 100 and then moved on to counting back. They also counted by grouping tens and partitioned a variety of numbers into tens and ones. During their thematic lessons, the children completed the next step of making their African masks. The children painted their mask in bright colours and some children added extra details in paint. The children can’t wait to add the decoration to finish off their masks! In science, the children identified and classified a variety of animals. This week, the children focused on amphibians and reptiles and discussed how they knew the animal belonged to a particular group.

This week, Year 2 have got up to lots of fun in their learning! In maths, the children continued learning all about time and we are now confident in their time telling skills! In English, the children have been reading ‘Rosie’s Magic Horse’ by Russell Hoban. This week the children got to create their own lolly stick characters based on Stickerino, the hero of the book! In Thematic the children were using their creative skills to design a seascape background which will become the cover of their new thematic book.

In English, in Year 3 the children began planning and writing their own magical stories inspired by the book ‘Leon and the Place Between’. The classroom was filled with imagination as pupils created stories with mysterious portals leading to strange and wonderful worlds from shimmering forests to shadowy circus tents. The children worked hard to use fronted adverbials and powerful, high-level adjectives to build awe and wonder in their writing. In Maths, Year 3 have been developing their time-telling skills by reading analogue clocks to the nearest minute. They focused especially on understanding “minutes to” the hour and practised solving time challenges with confidence. The class also explored Roman numerals and enjoyed learning how numbers were written in ancient times. Many children were excited to spot Roman numerals on clocks at home and in everyday life! In Computing, the children learned how to present information clearly using Google Slides. They practised changing text size, organising information carefully and creating their own presentation slides. The class enjoyed developing their digital skills and learning how to make their work neat, clear and interesting for an audience. As part of their thematic learning, Year 3 compared life in the Stone Age with life today. The children discovered how Stone Age people lived, found food and celebrated together as communities. They discussed the differences between Stone Age homes and modern houses, as well as how daily life has changed over thousands of years. The children were fascinated by how people survived without modern technology and enjoyed imagining what a Stone Age celebration might have looked like.

In Year 4 this week, the children have begun learning about decimals in maths. They have been exploring tenths through different representations of 1 whole split into ten equal parts. In English, they have been learning about what makes a good fairy tale and have begun planning their own story with a twist. In history Year 4 researched Anglo Saxon jewellery and have been designing their own brooches and making them out of clay.

This week, Year 5 have started studying the science fiction book ‘Robot Girl’ by Malorie Blackman. The children are gripped by the book and interested in how Claire’s dad thinks it’s acceptable to create an AI-E in her image! They are using modal verbs and emotive language to describe how both characters are feeling. In maths, the children have continued their geometry studies. They have been using what they know about angles on a straight line and around a point to calculate missing angles. In science, the children have been learning about the difference between a geocentric and heliocentric solar system and how views have evolved over time. On Friday, Teal class treated us to a class assembly where they shared lots of their learning from the year including the grisly story of Guy Fawkes being sentenced to a traitor’s death.

Well done to all our Year 6 pupils who completed their end of key stage SATs this week. The children showed incredible resilience and perseverance. They all remained extremely focused throughout the week and we are very proud of them all. They were able to finish off the week with a party in the park this afternoon.

Toys and precious things.

Please can I remind all parents that children should not be bringing toys or precious things to school. Unfortunately, the school cannot accept responsibility when things sometimes get lost, broken or stolen. Unless pupils are expressly asked to bring items from home, all toys including ‘squishy dumplings’ and other fidget toys should remain at home where they can be kept safe. If the teacher and inclusion manager have deemed it appropriate for your child to have a focus toy in class, this will be provided by the school.
