Another fun-filled and busy week in Nursery!
This week, we have been learning about the number three. We have been singing ‘three candles on a cake’ and ‘put a three in the air’. Throughout the week, the children explored the classroom looking for three items that are the same.
On Monday, we introduced the vocabulary from our new book ‘Peace at Last’ by Jill Murphy. We learnt some Makaton signs for peace, bear and sleep. Outside, the children used the construction blocks to make their own bedrooms. Inside, they used natural resources to make bear faces. It has been lovely hearing the children begin to use the vocabulary in their play outside and inside. We then went on a sound walk through the school. The children wore giant ears to help them hear. Some of the things the children could hear were; the wind chiming, gates crashing, the phone ringing, children shouting, the clock ticking and the water dripping – just like in our story. We will continue reading this story next week.
Our reading spine book this week was ‘Shark in the Park’. In this book, Timothy Pope hunts for a shark through his telescope. The children love joining in with shouting the phrase ‘there’s a shark in the park!’. After reading the book, some children wanted to make their own telescopes. We found items from the junk modelling and made sure we could see out from both ends!
