ATW Nursery News – 17th October

This week in Nursery, we have continued the story ‘Peace at last’. The children are now familiar with  the text and join in, using Makaton signs, when we read the story. This week we have focussed on the different sounds we can hear in each room in the book. We have been playing lots of sound games, including ‘Where’s Ted’. This game involved listening to different sounds of  household items and the children placing the teddy bear in the room you may find the sound. The children continued this game independently, making up their own sounds for their friends to guess! This inspired some of the children to make their own Junk Model houses with different rooms.

We have also been reading the book ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. The children enjoyed acting out the story, especially when we have to run away from the bear! We discussed what each of the outdoor elements might be like and during independent learning we explored the different textures of the squelchy mud, long grass and rivers.

In Maths, we have began looking at the number 4. The children hunted for 4 items around the classroom and have enjoyed singing ‘4 sausages in a pan’.
