Another fun week in Nursery!
On Tuesday, we had a visit from the Dentist. With the help of her crocodile mascot Dinky, she told us all about the importance of brushing our teeth 2 times a day; fronts, backs, tops and bottoms. She spoke to us about what foods are good and bad for our teeth. The children were very good at saying what food was good or bad in her quiz.
On Wednesday, we had our first forest school session! The children were very excited and had great fun exploring the area. Together, we came up with some rules to keep us safe and then the children went off climbing trees, making leaf trampolines and mud pies – Miss Goodey’s favourite!
We have began our phonics this week. Our sound of the week is ‘sss’, the children explored the environment looking for objects they could find beginning with this sound. We have also been playing some oral blending games like ‘can you touch your n-e-ck?’. In literacy we have been reading the story ‘brown bear, brown bear’ and have linked this to colours, which is this terms topic, particularly the colours of Autumn. We will continue to read this book next week, and develop our use of vocabulary from the story. I’m maths, we have began our shape topic. This week our focus shape was a circle. We learnt that a circle has 1 round side and no corners or points. The children are excellent shape hunters and have found lots of circle shapes in the classroom!
