Reception children have continued to settle so quickly and well; we are incredibly proud of them. They are all confidently exploring their new setting and have made many new friends. The outdoor area has been popular for developing gross motor skills, teamwork, and active physical play. The children have been working collaboratively to paint and build houses both indoors and outside. In class, the children have also been expressing their creativity by creating representations of their faces using various media such as paints, colouring pencils and natural objects. They are demonstrating that they feel safe and secure by being brave during learning time to share their ideas and news, and we have also discussed our learning disposition, “I am resilient.”
Phonics lessons have continued brilliantly and the children have learned the sounds ‘i’, ‘n’, ‘m’ and ‘d’ this week. We have read so much together, with our main focus being the wonderful story So Much! by Trish Cooke. The children especially loved playing an interactive game linked to the book, where they guessed who was knocking and waiting behind the door to visit the baby! In mathematics, our focus has been on counting skills, and the children enjoyed helping our class puppet to count and showing them how to improve by giving lots of helpful advice.
