EPS Reception: S, A, T, P Launch! Inside Our First Phonics Adventure!

Welcome to Reception’s very first phonics adventure! We’ve had an action-packed week learning our first four sounds (s, a, t, and p) through hands-on activities across the classroom. We used our creative collage skills to decorate slithering snakes with colourful maths patterns, blasted off to the moon as astronauts to write the a grapheme in moon sand, prowled as tigers in small-world play, and whipped up delicious p..p..pizzas using p..p..playdough! Keep an eye out for sticky labels on your child’s jumper featuring our daily sounds, and ask them “What’s the phoneme?” to test their brand-new knowledge at home. Alongside our reading, we’ve been sharpening our subitising skills in maths to recognise quantities instantly, using our trusty Numberblocks to explore how numbers are arranged—with one child proudly sharing, “My favourite Numberblock is Number 2 because it has 2 blocks!” What a fantastic first week of learning we’ve had!  On top of all these exciting activities we have also been singing the ‘Humpty Dumpty’ poem and making up our very own actions!
