Cypress News – Friday 17th July

We have reached the end of the school year at Cypress and are incredibly proud of everything all our children have achieved.  The children have made great strides in both their academic and personal learning.  This is due to their hard work and resilience but also due to the efforts of our amazing Cypress staff team.  Thanks to our parents and carers, who are so committed to supporting our children and the wider school community.

The World of Policing

This week, groups of pupils at Cypress Upper took part in an immersive dome experience all about the world of policing.  The children were very interested to learn about the different jobs the police do which include working at the airport, policing the River Thames, mounted police and forensic science.  Alongside this, they also had the chance to try on different police uniforms and use equipment to locate blood on a black item of clothing.  What a wonderful experience for the children!

PTFA Summer Fair success

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Cypress Summer Fair and Summer Raffle. Together, we raised an incredible £8,364.83!  This amazing achievement wouldn’t have been possible without our volunteers, staff, sponsors, local businesses and the wonderful support of our school community.  Every penny will go back into enriching school life for our children.  Thank you for helping make the Summer Fair such a big success!

The PTFA would like to say a very special thank you and goodbye to Miranda Bradley, one of our longest serving committee members and a former PTFA Trustee, whose youngest child is leaving Cypress this summer.  Miranda has dedicated countless hours over many years to supporting the PTFA and our school community, helping to raise thousands of pounds for the benefit of our children.  We are incredibly grateful for her commitment, enthusiasm and friendship and we wish her and her family every happiness and success in the future.

Want to help shape the future of the PTFA?  Drop us an email at hello@cypress-ptfa.org or look out for details of our next committee meeting in September.  Everyone is welcome!

Year 2 Leavers’ Assembly

On Tuesday afternoon, Year 2 wowed us with their amazing Leavers’ Assembly.  The hall was packed with parents and carers waiting to see the children perform and it was lovely to see all the children dressed to show what they would like to be when they grow up.  They have some amazing ambitions!  They sang with real enthusiasm and had included some fantastic dance moves.  As the children move to the Upper School, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them for the progress they have made during their time at the Lower School.  They are a wonderful year group who have a very bright future and we look forward to following their journey.  We hope that they hold on to their ambitions for the future and keep striving to achieve them.

Time to Say Goodbye

Today we have said ‘goodbye’ to our Year 6 who have been a tremendous group of pupils.  They have achieved so much in their time at Cypress and we wish them every success in their new schools.  They have amazing futures ahead of them and we will miss them at Cypress.

At the Lower School,  Mrs Smalley-Nicholson has retired after 21 years at Cypress and an impressive 38 years in education.  We’d like to thank her for her many years of service and dedication to Cypress children and families and wish her all the best as she enjoys a very well-earned retirement.

At the Upper School, we say goodbye to Mrs Wayman who is leaving us to pursue other opportunities.  We also say farewell to Miss Richardson, who is moving within our Trust to Atwood Primary, and Mrs Chira who is relocating to central London and has a new job in a school there.

Our music teacher Mrs Mbalu (Miss Barker) is leaving us as she is relocating to Essex following her marriage.  Mrs Parker who has worked at Cypress for 22 years and in recent years has been the English Lead across the Trust, leaves us to take a new role with the Wandle English Hub.  Mrs Parker has supported the reading and writing journey of hundreds (if not thousands!) of children across Cypress and Pegasus and has made a huge impact.

All of these members of staff will be hugely missed by everyone.  We wish them all the best in their exciting new chapters and do hope they’ll stay in touch.  Huge thanks for the invaluable contribution they have made in their time at Cypress.

Welcome to Cypress

We welcome Miss Woodhouse who is joining us at Cypress Upper in Year 5 and Miss Grimsey who will be the new music teacher across Cypress Primary School.  Mrs Yeboah and Mrs Shote are also returning to the Upper School following their maternity leave.  Mrs Chang will also be taking over as permanent Deputy Head of School at Cypress Upper in September, joining us from Whitehorse Manor.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Lumi in Cedar Class who received a gold medal in her gymnastics competition.  We are so proud of you.  Congratulations to David in Cedar Class, who has been working really hard on his maths.  What a superstar!

Our final day of this academic year is today and the children return to school on Thursday 3rd September 2026. We would like to thank our whole Cypress community for their support and kindness this academic year.  We hope everyone has a safe, restful and relaxing summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you in the new academic year.
