WHINF – Carnival Magic

Children in Year 2 from both the main site and Brigstock came together this week to experience the magic of carnival. Our final English unit this year is Caribbean poetry and what better way to launch this topic than to have our own carnival day. Sharing her roots with us, Miss Williams took us all on a journey as what can only be described as an epic day.

We all gathered together in brightly coloured clothes and cultural dress to learn about what carnival is and listen to some live music from steel pan player Dougie. Throughout the day children took part in three different workshops; dance, poetry and costume design.

The day ended with a huge dance party on the playground, with some more live music and dancing. Children wore the headbands they had created and enjoyed waving flags, scarves and pom poms in celebration. The energy was high and it wasn’t long before the rest of the school came to join us in dance and celebration.

Many children have described our day as ‘the best day ever’ and staff would agree, that it really was. A huge thank you goes to Miss Williams for having the dream and for pulling the day together.
