As part of our new topic, Beastly Beasties, Reception enjoyed an exciting trip to Godstone Farm this week. Although the weather was rather rainy, it certainly did not dampen our spirits, and everyone had a wonderful day filled with learning and adventure.
During the morning, the farm helpers led the children through a variety of hands-on activities. We learned all about pigs and their amazing snouts and discovered how they use them to explore their environment. The children had the opportunity to feed the pigs with sow rolls and listened carefully to the safety instructions, making sure to throw the food into the pens so that no fingers were accidentally nipped!
The children then became mini-beast explorers during a bug hunt. Searching under tyres and wooden rounds, they found a range of creatures including beetles, ants and slugs. There was great excitement as they carefully observed the different insects and talked about their habitats.
We also enjoyed meeting and handling a variety of animals, including chickens and giant African land snails. The farm staff taught us about the importance of hygiene when caring for animals and demonstrated how to wash our hands thoroughly to stop any germs from getting into mouths.
After a busy morning, everyone enjoyed their packed lunches before burning off some energy in the small soft play barn. There were lots of smiles and laughter as the children played together.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our parent volunteers who gave up their time to support the trip. Visits like these would not be possible without your help. We are also incredibly proud of the children, who demonstrated exemplary behaviour throughout the day and were excellent ambassadors for our school. Well done, Reception!
