Beulah – Year 2’s Science Week

Year 2 have been so relentlessly busy this Science Week that they’re basically one lab coat away from full-blown mad scientist status. In strict adherence to the week’s official theme of “Curiosity,” their tireless teachers have been working themselves to the bone, desperately fanning the flames of inquiry and trying to survive the fallout of twenty-something miniature scientist on a mission.

The children began their quest for world domination by making solids vanish via the magic of dissolving. They then moved on to mastering the art of buoyancy, discovering that a heavy dose of salt water is the ultimate secret to making random items defy gravity and float. As if that wasn’t enough, they also subjected an egg to a 5 day long bath in vinegar just to watch its shell completely disintegrate. On Friday, the egg resembled a bouncy ball in appearance and texture. The children were wonderful surprised.

The week might be over but the Science isn’t over as we are currently trying to grow crystals which will require a few more weeks of patience before we can sell them off to the highest bidder at Croydon market. Finally, they have constructed a botanical obstacle course in the form of a plant maze; the children have boldly made their predictions, and now we must wait with bated breath to see if nature conforms to their hypotheses.
