We’ve had lots of fun in the sun this week.
We have been reading the story ‘The Big Red Bus’ by Judy Hindley. We introduced the vocabulary : problem, materials, experiment, tip, roll and spread. In the book, the bus gets stuck in a hole. As a class we spoke about the problem and how we could fix it. On Thursday, we had our own problem. We had a hole in the train track and we had to fix it! Using the different materials of water, sand, soil, stones and jelly the children made predictions about what would get the train across the hole. We filled the hole with different materials and it was very exciting to see if the train would make it across without sinking or getting stuck. The children continued to explore this experiment in their free time.
At forest school, we learnt about transient art. The children collected natural materials to make their own transient art pictures. We had faces, mini beasts and more!
In maths, we have been writing numbers to 5 and singing lots of songs. The children’s number formation is really coming along.
Outside, we welcomed back our tadpoles, built obstacle courses with our soft play, enjoyed sharing books together, and explored how different vehicles and objects move in water. Let’s hope this lovely weather continues!
