In Reception this week we used the story of Little Red Riding Hood to help children learn new words and enjoy reading. The children listened carefully to the story and talked about the characters like Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf, and Grandma. We explored the setting of the woods and discussed what might happen next. The children joined in with repeated phrases and acted out parts of the story using stick puppets they had made. This helped build their confidence and speaking skills. They also practised writing simple words and sentences about the story, making their own pictures and retelling the events in their own words.
In maths this week we were learning how to count objects up to 20. The children practised counting carefully, touching each object as they said each number. We used different resources such as cubes, counters, and toys to help make learning fun and practical. The children also worked on recognising numbers to 20 and matching them to the correct quantity. We sang counting songs and played games to build confidence. Some children began to count beyond 20 and showed great enthusiasm. This learning helps develop strong number skills and prepares them for future maths work in Reception.
