Years 5 and 6 at EPS become composers for the English National Opera!

A very big congratulations to Years 5 and 6 at Ecclesbourne who this year became composers for the English National Opera.

During the autumn term, they took part in the ‘Finish This’ composition project. As part of this project, they took on the challenge of composing a fourth movement for the opera ‘Blue, Red and Yellow’ by composer Omar Shahryar. This involved them working together in groups to firstly decide on a colour theme for the movement, using word clouds to reflect the moods which their colour suggested, choosing appropriate instruments to express these moods, creating a graphic score to record their compositions and finally performing and recording their composition for submission to the English National Opera.

The feedback from the ENO for all four classes has been absolutely fantastic and you can hear their amazing compositions on the ENO’s Soundcloud page by clicking on the following link and scrolling down to the London Region:

An extra special congratulations to Jupiter class who had their composition chosen by the composer to be turned into an animation! Only 20 entries out of over 250 submissions were selected for this special honour and you can view their very special animation on the following link:
