At Cypress Upper, we began the week by reflecting on the goals we set for ourselves in assembly. Sometimes it is easy to give up on a goal as we feel as if we have failed because something went wrong. We thought about how to set better goals by making them realistic and knowing that it is okay to have another go as this helps us to make another step on the road to success. This week, the children have begun to work towards an actionable target they have set for themselves.
At the Lower School we have been learning about kindness and thinking about all the different ways we can demonstrate being kind to our friends, our teachers and to ourselves. We celebrated children in our Rainbow assembly today who have been kind, helped their peers and been considerate and thoughtful. Our Eco Council have been hard at work making plans for their upcoming cake sale – more details to follow soon!
Cedar Class Assembly
This morning we started the day with a brilliant assembly from Cedar Class. They explored the concept of ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ and shared how quickly they often failed. The children modelled how we can revise our goals to make them realistic so we have greater chance of success. They made an excellent link to Mrs Carpenter’s assembly on Monday. The children also performed two songs which included ‘Count on Me’. The children performed with so much confidence and prosody which included some very humorous jokes. Thank you to Mr Shipley and Miss Francis for all your hard work with the children. To all our parents and carers who attended, thank you for being such a supportive audience for the children.
Year 4 Adopt a Chef
This week, Year took part in a salad making workshop led by Chef Morad from Harrisons Catering. The children learnt cutting, dicing and chopping skills and used this to produce a healthy salad which they then got to take home. What an exciting way to learn about healthy eating!

Well done to Mac in Beech Class who came to share his Blue Peter Sports Badge that he had earnt by taking part in some rounders. Congratulations to Louiza and Zack in Holly Class who came to share their geography work. They are learning about ‘The Great Exhibition’ and had produced a map showing the countries who had sent objects for display with an explanation of what they were. David and Jacob in Cedar Class have been working very hard on their spelling this week and came to share their good work. Well done to both of you.
Well done to Maddy and Rita who were crowned Year 1 and Year 2 winners of the Pegasus Sports Poem competition. They will represent Cypress at the Pegasus final next Friday – congratulations! Everyone who entered the poetry competition was celebrated in assembly today and sent home with a poetry anthology written by Cypress children. Malcolm and Elsie from Turquoise class listened very carefully during our class trip to Croydon Mosque and Islamic Centre and we were so impressed with Sabur who confidently recited a prayer in Arabic for his classmates, well done!
We wish all our children and families a relaxing weekend.
