ATW Nursery News – 9th January

Happy New Year and first week back!

This term, our topic is ‘Run Run as Fast as You Can’ and we will be reading different traditional tales. This week, we are reading The Gingerbread Man. The children have enjoyed joining in with the phrase “run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m a ginger bread man”. We have made up actions for the story and some children have used the puppet show to re-enact the story.

Our focus in maths this week is positional language. We used the characters from the story to develop our use of this language. On Thursday, we used our imagination to walk the ginger bread man’s route in the story. Whilst on our walk, we spotted some characters hiding around different objects. The children used positional language to describe where each character was hiding. We found a dog on the table, a pig under the chair, a hen in a cup, a cow behind a box and a fox next to a river.

A special shout out to our January starters. It has been a pleasure to welcome new faces this week. They have settled really well and slotted in to our Nursery family so quickly; it’s like they were always here! We look forward to our year ahead together.
