ATW – Year 1 Trip to Sanderstead Recreation

Last Monday, Year 1 set off on an exciting walk to Sanderstead Recreation Ground to explore the human and physical features of their local area. The children learned that human features are made by people, while physical features occur naturally.  As they walked, the children identified lots of examples of human features around Sanderstead, including Waitrose, Costa and the petrol station.  The children were very lucky, as the rain had stopped just before their visit and they highlighted this as a physical feature.

The children also enjoyed observing many signs of autumn, linking their discoveries to this term’s science topic.  Everyone had a wonderful time exploring the park and discussed their findings on the way back to school.  Back in the classroom the class built on their learning by drawing their own maps to show the route they took to the park. It was great see their fantastic creations!
