ATW Reception News – Superworm, patterns and potatoes

What a lovely week we’ve had in Reception. We are at that time of the year when the children proudly demonstrate all that they have learned during their time with us . They have been rapidly recalling double facts and number bonds to five and ten. Fabulous sentences are being written every day. Kindness, inclusion and collaboration are being expressed towards others and our environment. We are all very proud of how far the children have come.

This week we have focused on the book, ‘Superworm’ by Julia Donaldson. We made predictions about what we thought might happen next as we read the story and the children all came up with fantastic ways that they would have caught the evil Wizard Lizard! Inspired by the patterns worms create with their movements, we investigated the artist Vincent Van Gogh. The children have painted their versions of his famous ‘Starry Night’ painting. I think you will agree that they are rather good!

We had a wonderful final forest school session. We began by digging up the potatoes we planted earlier this year. We then washed them and wrapped them in tin foil, ready to be cooked on the open fire we lit in forest school. The children enjoyed eating them with butter and mint that we have grown in our outdoor classroom.
