Continuing with our transport topic, this week we have been reading the story book ‘The Train Ride’ by June Crebbin. We went on our own journey round the school and spoke about all the things that we could see. The children were very well behaved and pretended to be a train as we travelled through the playground, dinner hall, reception classrooms and then returned to nursery.
The children have all worked together to build train tracks in the nursery and have enjoyed acting out the story using the small world resources.
In maths, we have been learning the rules of counting and understanding that two groups of objects can be combined together to make a larger amount. The children have been making counting fingers to ensure that they count everything once, they have been practicing counting in the right order and learning that the last number we say when counting objects is how many there are.
In phonics, we have been learning the sound ‘v.’ The children have been enjoying being vets and making volcanoes!
