There’s nothing quite like spending time with friends and family, enjoying a good book, and sharing a snack. Combine all three, and you have a Booknic! This week, we hosted three very successful Booknics for children and their families at Ecclesbourne. Families spread out their blankets in the lovely sunshine, savoured delicious snacks and read books together. It was wonderful to see so many families joining us and creating lasting memories through reading with their children. During the Booknic, children were invited to select books to read with their adult. These books were generously provided by the fantastic Children’s Book Project, a charity that has supplied us with many wonderful books for our children over the past few years. Throughout the week, children will have the chance to enjoy reading these donated books, and on Friday, they will be able to choose one to take home with them.
We received some fantastic entries into our ‘read in an unusual place’ photo competition, with photos of children reading on top of a fence, balancing on climbing frames and even sitting on the toilet! Ecclesbourne children can pick up and enjoy a book almost anywhere! Congratulations to Josiah, Sophia and Amanze who won a free book from our Book Fair.
We have also held a very successful Scholastic Travelling Book Fair this week. All books purchased have helped Ecclesbourne fund more books for our classrooms, so huge thanks for everyone’s support. On Thursday everyone came to school wearing their pyjamas to snuggle up, get cosy and read a book. We were thrilled to raise £220 to help purchase books for our Reading Spine collection.
We hope everyone at EPS has enjoyed our We Love Reading week! Thank you to Mrs Bevan for her efforts organising a great week in school.
