On Monday, Paul Lyalls visited Ecclesbourne to kick start this year’s Book Week. Paul served as an official ‘Poet in Residence’ at the Roald Dahl Museum and told us all about how he worked with the Roald Dahl family studying and understanding his work. Paul also worked on poems for the London Olympics in 2012 and has even worked with Arsenal FC, performing his poetry live in the stadium – the Arsenal fans at EPS were very impressed by this!
Our year 5 and 6 classes worked with Paul in poetry workshops where they got to recite some of his poetry. They then worked collaboratively to create their own poems. Paul was very impressed with the children’s imagination and creativity.
Paul also treated us to a whole school assembly. Together we recited some of his poetry, adding actions and using our bodies to move to the rhythm of the poems. The hall was filled with laughter as Paul’s poems made everyone chuckle. Thank you Paul for such a great start to our Book Week!
