Enjoying the library at Whitehorse

There was a purposeful hush in the air when Indigo Class enjoyed their weekly reading session in our wonderful library.
For the past two weeks we have immersed ourselves in the story of ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson.
Last week we had a workshop visit in year 1. The visitor taught us all about toys from the past, such as clockwork toys, puppets and spinning tops.

On Tuesday last week, the children in Year 1 were visited by Mrs Jenkins, a toy specialist, who taught our children about toys from the past and toys that our children play with today.
Inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy, Year 5 pupils at EPS, have been getting creative by making works of art.
At Beulah, we have had the privilege of having Ms Smythe support our gymnastics lessons this half term.
In EPS Nursery this week, we have been reading The Gingerbread Man.
Years 5 and 6 were treated to a very informative presentation by Natalie from the Idling Project, an initiative which aims to teach everyone about the impact of idling cars on air pollution.

In a news story last year I wrote about the ongoing work to revitalise the Cypress Woodlands that surround the Lower School site in order to bring them back into use and make them more attractive to wildlife.
Year 3 have been inspired by the art of both Frida Kahlo’s to create our self-portraits and Vincent van Gogh’s impressionist style to create beautiful seascapes as a backdrop to our poems.
This half-term we are working hard to develop our oracy skills; we have been thinking about oracy carefully and have decided that good listening skills are a prerequisite to good speaking skills.
We’ve had a great week at Cypress Lower School. Children in Reception have been reading ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson this week and have enjoyed re-telling the story.
The children in Little Cypress have had another fun-packed week, despite the sometimes rather uninspiring weather!
