News from Atwood

Mr Veale’s Welcome

It certainly has been an autumnal week, with temperatures dropping significantly.  The children are beginning to notice the slow change of seasons.  The children are now beginning to harvest the windfalls of our old apple trees in the Orchard.  These will be distrubuted to the classes and will be available for parents from next week.

Mrs Standing has started facilitating the ever popular Parent Gym.  Monday’s session saw a packed Purple Room as she embarked on this very well regarded parenting support programme.

In other news, the children have been focusing on one of the Pegasus Values- ‘We Care’.  In KS2 this week, Mr Veale showed the children a video about the impact of the Chernobyl disaster and what happens to the environment when humans don’t care enough about safety.  Some of the Key Stage 2 children with links to the Ukraine and Poland spoke about how this affected their own relatives.  It certainly made us all think about how the world has shrunk since the 1980s and that sitting in our assembly hall on 2022, are children with close associations with such a disaster.

Harvest 2022

As we move towards October (where has time gone?), Mr Veale will be introducing Harvest 2022 to the children from the 10th October.  This year, we will be building upon the truly amazing demonstration of generosity.  Atwood has decided to support two local charities:  The Croydon Refugee Day Centre (a long standing charity that Atwood supports) https://croydonrefugeedaycentre.co.uk/  and Nighwatch https://croydonnightwatch.org.uk/, which is a new charity for Atwood.  Nightwatch is a charity founded by members of the community in Croydon who were concerned about homelessness.

Therefore, from 10th October we will be asking for our usual donations of non-perishable items.  On Thursday 20th October, representatives from both charities will visit Atwood and speak a little about their important work, as well as collecting the various Harvest good to take back to those who are most in need.

Team Points

The ever popular Team Points Competition is back with Fire, Water, Earth and Air battling it out once again.

As of last week, here is how the competition is going!

FIRE 22
WATER 25
EARTH 17
AIR 23

Have a super weekend and here’s to a great October at Atwood.
