Remembrance Day at Cypress Lower

Welcome to the Autumn 2 half term which is already jam packed with lots of exciting learning and events for our children and families.

During our school assemblies this week we have been learning about Remembrance Day.  On Thursday we held a 2 minute silence at 11am to mark Armistice Day, along with the rest of the nation. We were so proud of how respectful and reflective our children have been.  Our Year 2 classes had a very informative virtual workshop led by the London Fire Brigade on Monday, where they learnt about fire safety.  Mrs Dutton led a fantastic assembly on Tuesday about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali.  On Friday, we celebrated children from each class who have been awarded a Rainbow certificate this week for their hard work and positive attitude towards learning.  Well done to Harry, Lewis, Bea and Lily who used the word of the week ‘uncertain’ in a sentence and have been awarded a special rosette.  Our next word of the week is ’emotional’.

Naughty Bus spotted in Reception!

This week Reception have been reading ‘Naughty Bus’ by Jan and Jerry Oke.  We have built and painted our own naughty bus.  He has fallen in the water tray, made a terrible mess with baked beans, squeezed out toothpaste and is up to all sorts of naughty tricks in Reception!  Be warned, he is travelling around the school at night so you may see him pop up somewhere near your classroom!

Year 1 visit the Science Museum

Our Year 1 classes have had an exciting week visiting the Science Museum.  They took part in workshops, explored the space section of the museum and spent some time in the Garden area.  All of our classes were beautifully well behaved and represented Cypress wonderfully.  We have also seen some incredible writing in Year 1 this week, inspired by aliens and space.

Tudor Day in Year 2

On Friday we had a great surprise when none other than Henry VIII came to visit Cypress!  Our children transformed into Tudors for the day, with Kings, Queens, Lords and Ladies filling our school.  There was even a rather terrifying Tudor executioner!

Friendship Week and Children in Need fundraising

Next week is Friendship Week.  During this week we will be learning about what constitutes bullying and what to do, or who to talk to, if you’re worried.  We will be focusing on all the different ways we can be a good friend.  On Monday 15th we ask that all children come to school wearing Odd Socks to celebrate their uniqueness (no donations required).  Next Thursday Violet class have their assembly, which will be shared with children in KS1 (click here for the letter).  Friday 19th November is Children in Need day and our Pupil School Council have decided to hold a pyjama day to raise funds!  We are all very excited to wear our pyjamas to school (including the staff!) so please donate to this worthwhile cause (click here for letter).

Parent MAC election

Many thanks to all those who voted in our Parent MAC election.  A total of 103 votes were cast and we’re pleased to announce that our new Parent MAC is Sarah Waddingham.  Sarah has a child in Nursery and is very keen to support Cypress and join the MAC team.

We hope everyone has a brilliant weekend and look forward to seeing you all wearing your ODD SOCKS on Monday!
