CYP Lower – Learning about perseverance

We have had a busy and very enjoyable week at Cypress Lower School.  On Monday during our KS1 assembly, we learnt how we can change our mindsets and demonstrate perseverance in our learning.  Instead of saying “I can’t do it” we can say “I can’t do it YET” and keep trying hard until we reach our goals.  Ms Balhadere led our Tuesday assembly and taught children all about the Jewish New Year festival of Rosh Hashanah.  Lots of children received Rainbow certificates today and we are so proud of their achievements.  Well done to Shen and Jocelyn for winning Word of the Week for using the word charity in amazing sentences.  This week our Word of the Week is cold.  Please encourage your children to write a sentence with this word and pop it into the Golden Box for a chance to win a rosette.

Cypress Lower School Superstars

Well done to Lily, Lewis, Caleb and Sophia for their hard work in English this week, writing excellent diary entries based on ‘The Bear and the Piano’.  Oskar has worked incredibly hard this week, demonstrating great independence and concentration.  In Reception, Elliot, Raine, Stanley and Robyn have been working really hard on subitising in maths, which is when you can recognise a total number of objects without counting them.  Elliot told Mrs Sorensen, “I had to get the pirate number right or you had to walk the plank!”.

Outside Spaces

Many thanks to Mrs Dutton and her team of parent volunteers for their work removing weeds and planting new shrubs and bulbs in the tyre flower beds at the front of the school, after we received some Garden Grant funding.  We still have some further planting to do so please email idutton@pegasusacademytrust.org if you’re able to offer your time.  Sadly our Adventure Playground remains closed for the time being as it requires large-scale repairs costing thousands, to ensure it’s safe for our children.  We hope to have this area back in use in the New Year.

Curriculum Meetings

We have had a great response to our recent curriculum meetings.  If you were not able to attend then please click these links to access the resources: Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.  Our Nursery curriculum meeting has now been rescheduled to after half term on Tuesday 8th November.

Parking on Neighbouring Roads

Please can all Cypress families ensure that they park courteously on surrounding roads.  We have had some complaints from neighbours and have also unfortunately witnessed some of our parents blocking pavements and parking illegally.  No parking is permitted at the entrance to the park, as the entrance has been narrowed by Croydon Council.  We are also aware that there are some temporary lights on Auckland Road which is contributing to congestion.  We encourage families to walk, cycle or take public transport to school wherever possible.  If you can’t avoid driving then please park safely and legally.

Macmillan Fundraising

A HUGE thank you to all staff and children for supporting Macmillan Cancer Support today, by donating, buying and eating lots of cakes!  Our Upper School House Captains did a great job selling cakes and hosting.  Cypress raised £415.00 for this very worthwhile cause – go Team Cypress!  If you would still like to donate, you can use this link: https://thyg.uk/BUS007704676.

We hope that everyone has a lovely weekend.

Mrs Sorensen and the Cypress Lower team
