On Tuesday 11th November at 11am, we held a 2 minute silence to show our respects and remember those that have fought in war for their country.
We spoke about the importance of Armistice Day and why we wear the poppy as a commemorative symbol.
Mrs Quick and Mr Smith both spoke about family members that were soldiers during the First World War. They kindly showed us a collection of photographs i.e. soldiers in training, medals and memorial statues. They were lovely to see and it was fascinating to learn more about their family members.
Mr Smith played The Last Post beautifully during our assembly. The Last Post” is a military bugle call that traditionally signalled the end of the day but is now most famously used in remembrance ceremonies to symbolise the completion of a soldier’s duty and their rest. It is played on Remembrance Day, to honour those who have died in war. The mournful melody has become a poignant sound of farewell and remembrance for fallen soldiers.
Children in Year 1 and Year 2 made Poppy wreaths and Reception completed a range of activities linked to Remembrance Day.
We would like to thank you for all of your donations to the Poppy Appeal.
