This week, we continued reading ‘Who sank the boat?’ The children explored different materials that would best be used to build a boat that stays afloat. During our carpet sessions, we have acted out the story. This week, we have also explored non fiction texts. The children chose information books about water and boats from our library and we explored them during our choosing time. We also discussed the key features of non-fiction texts (it has a contents page, it has an index, it has real pictures, it includes facts not stories).
In maths, we have been learning time words. We have taken a trip down memory lane, looking at each child’s work folder. We discussed work we did at the beginning, middle and end of the year. We have also looked at all the flowers and vegetables we planted at the start of the year. We discussed their growth and spoke about how they started and how they ended using the vocabulary first, next and last.
On Monday, we celebrated England getting to the quarter- finals of the World Cup with a dance. This week, we have begun practising our songs and dances for the end of year performance.
In phonics we have recapped all the sounds we have learnt this year, focussing on s, a, t, p, i and n as these are the first few sounds the children will learn in reception.
