In Reception this week, the children have been reading ‘The Leaf Thief’ by Alice Hemming. They used the story to investigate the season of autumn, going on an autumn walk around school to collect natural treasures. The children then used these items to create fantastic leaf people and squirrels, demonstrating excellent creative skills! They also challenged themselves to write the initial sound of characters and items found in the story, applying their phonics skills brilliantly.
In mathematics, the children have been focusing on the composition and value of the number 5, exploring how it can be made in different ways.
In phonics, the children spent time consolidating their learning. They thoroughly impressed the adults with all the sounds they have learnt so far and showed off their fantastic blending knowledge!
Yellow Class had a fantastic time on their very first trip to Forest School! Despite the pouring rain, they learned all about the rules for staying safe in the woods, climbed trees, swung on tyres, and had endless fun in the mud kitchen.
In celebration of Black History Month, the children learned about the artist Lubaina Himid and created wonderful artwork using natural materials inspired by her style. They ended the week celebrating their rich cultures and differences by sharing where they are from. To top it all off, the children celebrated reaching an incredible 300 Dojo points after completing so many challenges this term!
It has been a fantastic Autumn 1 term, and everyone is so proud of how well the children have settled in and worked. Wishing all our families a wonderful, relaxing half-term break, and looking forward to all the excitement Autumn 2 will bring!
