This week, Reception have started demonstrating their phonics and reading skills through reading practice, and they will take their first reading books home today that they have been practicing in class! In phonics, the target sounds this week were ‘ck’, ‘e’, ‘u’, and ‘r’. The children have also started to read words independently using sound buttons to blend sounds together.
In Thematic, they have been reading the book We Feel Happy. The children have been exploring different emotions and relating them to the energy levels board—thinking carefully about what things make them feel happy, what they can do when feeling sad, and how they can manage their own excitement.
In Mathematics, the children have been subitising 2 and 3, and they have started exploring the different ways to make 4.
Reception had their very first PE lesson this week, where they embarked on an adventure to the “Land of the Giants”! They tiptoed around, climbed a beanstalk, and even found some magic beans, all while practicing their balancing skills to make sure they were not seen by the giants.
Outside, the children have continued to develop their gross motor skills using the mini trampoline—even having a go at throwing and catching while bouncing—and using walkers to practice their balance.
