ATW Reception News – The Big Bad Wolf comes to visit!

What a fantastic first week back after the Easter holidays! The children returned refreshed, full of energy, and ready to learn.

On Tuesday, Reception received a mysterious letter… but there was no name at the bottom! The children quickly became detectives, using clues from the letter to work out who it might be from. After lots of thoughtful discussion, they decided it could be the Big Bad Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. A few “phone calls” later, we confirmed their suspicions—and on Wednesday, the wolf himself came to visit! The children had prepared a range of excellent questions and did a wonderful job welcoming him into our classroom. They learned so much and showed great curiosity and confidence throughout the experience.

In phonics, the children have moved on to Phase 4, where they have been reading CVCC words with short vowels. They have also been learning some new tricky words, including saidsohave, and like, and have been working hard to recognise and use these in their reading.

In maths, our focus has been on cardinality, ordinality, and counting. The children have been counting larger sets of objects and even exploring how to count things that cannot be seen. They have also been developing their understanding of how numbers relate to each other, particularly looking at one more and one less than a given number.

It has been a brilliant start to the term—we are so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been!
