Year 6

Week Starting 14 June 2020

Welcome to week 8 of Year 6 learning!

Last week, Year 6 completed a collaborative writing project based on the animated short film, Belly Flop.  Mrs Roberts has brought together the chunks to make a Year 6 version of the story.  Please enjoy the first ever reading of it here:

LIVE lessons

Thank you so much to all of you who joined the LIVE science session last Wednesday.  We had a staggering 110 participants!!

It is wonderful that so many of you were able to join us this week and hope that even more will join our live lesson next week – Maybe we can get over 150 participants this week???

We know that many more of you tried to join – we’d like to apologise for the teething problems with the new technology and thank you for your patience.  Please contact your class teacher via your class blog or email yr6@pegasusacademytrust.org outlining the nature of the problem you had logging in and hopefully we can resolve the issue so that you can join the next LIVE lesson.

Our next live lesson will be at 11am on Wednesday 17th June when Mrs O’Connor will be hosting another LIVE lesson, this time carrying on with our new Science topic: The Human Body.  In this lesson you will learn all about the heart.

For those of you who are unable to join the LIVE lesson, it will also be available as narrated Google slides under the Wednesday tab.

Please check in the Wednesday tab for more details.

In order to access this meeting you will need to sign in to Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/.  You can do so using your .306 username followed by @gsuite.pegasusacademytrust.org.

Your password is the password you normally use with your .306 username.  These are the same as the login that you use to log into the school computers.

If you have joined a previous live session, you may find that you are already signed in.

You can then join a meeting using the nickname/meeting code:

We will not be using the same nickname/meeting code for all live sessions as stated last week.  A new nickname/meeting code will be posted here each week.  Apologies for the confusion.

Please find detailed instructions (with screen shots) of how to log in to access a Google Meet in the introduction to this weeks page

Please find detailed instructions (with screen shots) of how to access a Google Meet here: How To Access A Google Meet – this document includes instructions of how to access a Google Meet from a laptop, desktop, smart phone and tablet.

If you have any problems please let your teacher know via the class blog or through the year 6 email: yr6@pegasusacademytrust.org.

Here are some pictures of the wonderful work you have sent us.  Please keep them coming!!

Please keep sharing your work on your class blog or emailing us at yr6@pegasusacademytrust.org.

You can also use the class blogs to contact your teacher with any questions you may have about the work.

We are also pleased that we have continued to speak to so many of you on the telephone – we have been greatly enjoying the tales of all the things you have been doing to keep yourselves busy during lockdown.

The Year 6 teachers have been working hard this week to create another week of fun and challenging tasks for you to get your teeth into!  As with last week, each day you will find 3 tasks which should take 45 minutes – simply click on the relevant day below.  Under the tab for each day you will find: a mathematics task; a literacy, reading or grammar task; and a task relating to thematic, science or RE and PSHE.  Don’t forget to look in the ‘Extra Activities’ tab where you will find links to fun Music, P.E. and other activities.

This week, in addition to the mathematics tasks and English tasks, we will be learning about the boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamun, and the discovery of his tomb.

Here is an overview of this week’s learning:

Session 1  Session 2 Session 3
MONDAY Arithmetic – Mr Prewer’s Marvellous Maths Reading text and questions – Reading comprehension on the circulatory system. PSHE – Managing your feelings during the transition to secondary school.
TUESDAY Mathletics – Complete 3 activities set by your teacher. Grammar – Making links between paragraphs. Art (linked to PSHE) – Hand affirmations.
WEDNESDAY Science – The Human Body: all about the heart Writing task – Adventure story based on Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. TT Rockstars and times tables tasks
THURSDAY Reasoning – Percentages Editing task – Editing your adventure story. History – Tutankhamun: the Pharaoh, the tomb and the discovery.
FRIDAY Maths investigation – Would you rather…?  Use you knowledge of percentages of amounts to get the best deals. Reading – Wolf Brother chapter 27 video and questions. History – Creating a catalogue of the treasures unearthed in Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Why not have a go at the Trust-wide task for this week?

This week’s challenge is to create a quiz.  You could keep it simple and write ten questions on a topic of your choice or you could create a photo quiz to see if your friends and family can guess the item or character from a photo showing only a small part of it.  You could write a ‘What am I?’ quiz – write 3 clues and see who can guess what or who you are.

Ms Sampson absolutely loves quizzes and is our official Pegasus Academy Trust Quizmaster – perhaps she will use one of your excellent creations for her next quiz meeting.   Don’t forget to email them to your home learning email address or post them on your blog.

See under the Extra Activities tab for more inspiration!
