Week Starting 05 July 2020

Hello to all our Nursery/2YO Parents, Carers and Children,

We hope you all had a lovely weekend and are raring to go with Summer Term 2, Week 6 of our Nursery/2YO Home Learning. This half-term have been focusing on Change and Growth and how we deal with both change and emotions in our lives. We have all dealt with change whilst the schools have been closed over lockdown and the activities will continue to focus on change, growth, transition and the range of emotions that accompany this. We do hope you will enjoy what we have planned for you.

It was so lovely seeing so many of you at our live Google Meet session for Nursery/2YO across the Trust last Wednesday. We will have another session for Nursery/2YO this Wednesday, 8th July at 9.30am. The meeting nickname is: nurjuly08  Please do not enter the meeting before 9.25am; thank you!  If you do not have login details for your child, please email the Nursery email address (see below).  On Friday, 10th July, we will also have a Google Meet just for our Rainbows’ children at 10.00am. The meeting nickname is: rainbowscypress   Please do join us if you can for these live Google Meets; it is so lovely to see the children and for them to see eachother!
Here is Miss Chapman from Cypress Nursery with a few insights in to the week ahead and saying ‘hello’ to you all:

Hello Everyone and a big Welcome to Monday!

How was your weekend? I can’t believe we are entering the penultimate week of our Nursery/2YO Home Learning of this Summer Term. Are you feeling energetic?

Activity 1: Let’s start off with our Cosmic Yoga this morning:

Activity 2: Today we are going to start by listening to the story of ‘Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes’ read by Miss Chapman from Cypress Nursery:

Did you enjoy that story? Is there something you are looking forward to doing in your new class in September? Have a chat to someone in your household about what you are looking forward or perhaps something you are a bit apprehensive or worried about?
Can you have a go at drawing and writing about yourself? There will be children in your new class whom you might know and some you might not, but everyone is unique and different in their own special way. You could use any of the templates in the downloads section below to think about how you are very special. (All About Me and This is Me)

Activity 3: Pete the Cat is very proud of his new school shoes. Can you design your own new school shoes? Our school shoes at Pegasus need to be black and plain but you can make the ones you design whatever colour you like and add any designs or patterns you wish! You might like to have laces made of velvet and sequins all over your shoes! You could colour in your shoes template or use paint and collage materials. Let your imagination run riot! We can’t wait to see your groovy new school shoes! There is a template in the downloads section below for you to use. (Design your own School Shoes)

At school we follow timetables so that we fit everything in to our day including lunch and playtimes. There is a timetable in the downloads section below for you to look at and talk about. This timetable is for home and you might want to cut the squares out and order them each day depending on what you are going to do or have done. (Visual Timetable for Home)

Hello Everyone and Welcome to Tuesday!

Are you all raring to go this morning?

Activity 1: Let’s take a trip to the moon today…

Activity 2: Let’s start today by listening to the story of: ‘Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party’:

All the toppings on the pizza begin with the sound ‘p’. Can you think of some things around your house which begin with ‘p’. Can you get a tray or a box and make a collection of ‘p’ objects? How many items have you managed to collect? Can you try and write a list of the items you have found and draw a picture of each item?
Here a few items you might have around the house which all begin with ‘p’:

Activity 3: In the story the friends had a great time deciding which toppings they wanted on their pizza and then they shared it at the end (despite being a bit worried about how it might taste!) Today you are going to have a go at designing and making your own pizza! You could make it from scratch using the pizza base recipe below in the downloads section (Pizza Base Recipe) or you could buy a pizza base and put toppings on that! Either way we can’t wait to see what toppings you put on your pizza!  You could make your pizza sweet or savoury! Please send us some photos!

There is also a Pizza Chef Hat to make and a shape colouring activity to do if you would like.

Lastly, there is also a Design a Pizza – Cutting and Sticking activity in the downloads section below, if you’d like to have a go at it!

Hello Everyone and Welcome to Wednesday!

Let’s start our day by getting active and mindful:

Activity 1: Which animal will we explore today in Cosmic Yoga?

Activity 2: Let’s listen to Mrs Jerman from Cypress Nursery read the story of: ‘Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses’:

It’s a good idea to wear sunglasses when the weather is sunny. They protect your eyes from sun damage and also look really cool! For this next activity, you are going to have a go at making your own super-cool sunglasses! You can use the template in the downloads section below (Sunglasses Template) or you can design and make your own. Have a look at some of the photos below for inspiration:

There is also a mindfulness sunglasses colouring sheet for you to carefully colour in (Sunglasses Mindfulness). Could you try and write your name and the word ‘sunglasses’ on the page?

Activity 3: Can you think about the other items you might need to stay safe in the sun? Talk to someone in your house about those things. For our next activity today we are going to cut out and stick things we need to stay safe when the weather is hot. (Sun Safety – Cutting and Sticking) Use the template below or if you don’t have a printer, could you draw or paint a picture of someone ready for the beach, wearing a hat, sunglasses and suitable clothing?

Hello Everyone and a big welcome to Thursday!

Are you ready to go an adventure today?

Activity 1: Let’s see where our Cosmic Yoga will take us today…

Activity 2:  Let’s listen to Mrs Jerman from Cypress Nursery reading the story of: ‘Pete the Cat: I love my White Shoes’:

Pete ends up with shoes of lots of different colours. What is your favourite colour? Can you do a drawing/painting/collage/collection using just your favourite colour or colours? Try the Minibeasts – Colour by Numbers in the downloads section below.

Activity 3: It’s time for some Science in our final activity for the day. Look at the instructions for: How to Grow a Rainbow Experiment in the downloads section below and please send us photos of your wonderful experiment in trying to grow a rainbow!

Hello Everyone and Welcome to Friday!

We’ve made it! Another week of Home Learning and only one week to go after this…

Activity 1: Let’s see what Cosmic Yoga has in store for us today:

Activity 2: Let’s listen to Miss Chapman reading the funny story of: ‘Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons’:

Did you enjoy that story? How many buttons did Pete have on yellow coat? And how many if you add his belly button as well? Count that number carefully on your fingers. We are going to try some counting using an egg box. Hopefully you might have an egg box (6 or 12 hole) in the house? Can you use the egg box and write some numbers in each hole eg 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 etc. Then see if you can find the corresponding number of items to put in each hole. You could use dried pasta, raisins, lego bricks, beans? Remember to count really carefully! If you don’t have an egg box, you could always use a fairy or cupcake tin and write the numbers on little pieces of paper and add to each hole.

Activity 3: For our last activity of the week, we are going to have a Whole Trust Challenge, centered around Black Lives Matter (BLM).
The task this week is:
Children are to write a poem or design a poster which describes their thoughts and feelings about how Black Lives Matter.
They can use the following to support their ideas:
  • Why is BLM important?
  • What does diversity look like to them?
  • What is equality and What does it look like to them?
  • Why is equality important?
  • What values are important to them?
  • What is a community?
Please remind the children that their poem does not have to rhyme.
Posters must be eye catching and stand out! Both can be produced on A4 paper. There are some examples below in the downloads section to help you.
The final reminder is that we would like the children to email their work to their Year group email address. Work will then be put onto a news story gallery.
