Here at Whitehorse Manor Juniors, We LOVE reading!
As you are aware, we have totally over-hauled our approach to reading and are working to give our children a deeper understanding of what they are reading and the ability to express this understanding. We want to encourage children to read a variety of books and share their enthusiasm and passion for reading within the classroom. Reading is a fundamental life skill and we make it our priority to ensure that all children can read by the time they leave us.
Each week children have the opportunity to bring in a book/text of their choice to read and share during their ‘I LOVE READING’ session. Again, this is an opportunity for children to discuss their opinions on the books they have read, as well as an opportunity to try out new books. The children thoroughly enjoy this session!
An enjoyment of reading is really important to us and we would love this to continue at home as well. There is nothing better then getting lost in a book, whether you’re hearing your child read or reading to them (something we promote very much).
Just a friendly reminder that on the website we have saved a document called ‘Reading- Support materials for parents‘. This will provide you with some helpful hints and questions to ask your child when reading together. We also host regular ‘Reading breakfast’ sessions, where parents/carers are invited to come in and read books of their choice with and to their child (over a cup of tea and a biscuit or two). Look out for the next date! We look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for your continued support!
