Ecclesbourne allotment’s bumper crop

The children in Year 3 have been reaping the harvest from the Ecclesbourne allotment.  Although the plot was only offered to us in the Spring, Mrs Miles, Mr Clark and Mrs Keating worked hard to get some produce into the ground.  The children from Year 3 managed to plant runner beans, broad beans, spinach, tomatoes and peppers.  There are even some pumpkins left to come.

The allotment has been a success this year but next year we hope to have all classes growing something in their own plot. This is a valuable way to teach children about where their food comes from and how plants grow.   We are really keen to hear from any gardeners with top tips or seedlings.  Alternatively, if you want to get some exercise and fancy doing some weeding, keep checking newsletters as we'll be trying to organise a work party to get the allotment clear before we put it to bed for the winter.
