It has been a jam-packed first week back at school. We have been thinking about ‘new beginnings’ and also how to keep ourselves safe, happy and healthy. We have had our first Spanish lessons with Ms Binks and if the singing (in Spanish) in the playgrounds and at the end of the day is anything to go by – I think we’re really enjoying it! I’ve really loved visiting everyone in their new classrooms and spending time with Year 3. We also had an exciting assembly this morning lead by Mr Spoerer, a Pegasus Academy Music teacher, who will be teaching music at Cypress on Mondays. He spoke to us about the lessons he was offering from September 20th and we listened to his amazing drumming, using a traditional West African Djembe drum.
We are excited to launch our new Reading Tree initiative, which encourages children to spend time reading daily. Our vision is ‘Growing Readers’ throughout children’s time at Cypress and promoting a lifelong love of reading. A letter was sent out this week with further details and you can also find a copy here. We are excited to start rewarding children and classes for their efforts.
Our enrichment PPA sessions started again on Tuesday and Thursday of this week; you can find the timetable for the academic year here (Years 4/6) and here (Years 3/5). As part of our enrichment provision this year, children will be learning life skills. In particular, they will learn first aid, how to navigate their way around public transport and key skills such as tying a tie, washing the dishes, sewing, cooking and budgeting. Year 4 were very excited to be able to create a sling using their jumper this week and could articulate clearly when to use this in a real life situation. By the time children leave in Year 6, they will have developed a range of practical skills that will last them a lifetime. These skills link to our Pegasus Diet – focusing upon the holistic development of our children.
Forest School also returns again next week. Please look at our Forest School information to find out more about when your child’s class takes part in sessions, what they should wear and the benefits of outdoor learning.
There’s so much to look forward to! See you all next week.
Have a great weekend.
