This week Year 2 have been exploring 2D shapes in maths. All the classes took on the challenge of a shape hunt to create a tally chart to find out what the most and least common 2D shapes are around the school. We then identified the properties of the different 2D shapes by looking at how many sides and vertices they have. We even noticed some patterns relating to the number of sides and vertices of the shapes. It was great fun problem solving, using 18 wooden sticks to see how many different shapes we could create. Lastly we learnt to use mathematical words like ‘equal, straight and curved’ when describing each shape’s unique properties.
