African dancing, masks and djembes in Year 1

As part of Year 1’s African topic, Shooting Stars and Astronauts classes have taken part in African dance workshops.  Traditional African dancers taught both classes songs and dances.  The children loved learning the moves and created their own dance sequences. They were accompanied by a skilled djembe drummer and a fantastic singer.
Following their visit to the Horniman Museum the children decided to create their own djembe drums, traditional African masks and portraits.  I’m sure you’ll agree that the children have made amazing pieces of art work, worthy of an art gallery.
