It has been a fantastic start back to the new academic year at Whitehorse Manor Junior School. We have been thrilled to see all of the children back, eager to learn and share their knowledge.
Over the last couple of weeks, each class has been studying the book ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. It is a beautiful, heart-warming book that encourages young minds to think of the Earth not just as their home but as a planet that must be taken care of. The book has provided an opportunity for our children to ask and answer questions and for conversations to flourish. It has been a great way to start our return to school. Children have also been working on how to become better learners. We call this ‘Building our learning powers’. It encompasses the 4Rs- Resilience, Resourcefulness, Reflectiveness and Reciprocity.
The children at WHJUN have also embraced the changes around our school and have been extremely responsible and mature in regards to social distancing, regular handwashing as well as understanding the new break and lunchtime rota. We also want to thank all of our parents for their patience and support with our way in and way out route.
Assemblies are also very different this academic year, as we are conducting them virtually. We still want to ensure that our Pegasus Values are still very much a part of our school life and it is a great way to share a story, a topic of discussion and a way to be a whole school again at one time.
We have seen lots of smiles, fun and laughter over the past two weeks and are looking forward to a great term ahead of us.
