Whilst a large number of children were away enjoying the wonders of the Isle of Wight, a small group from both schools remained at home to enjoy the week with Mr Barrett. Monday included a trip to Crystal Palace park, where the children had a picnic, got lost in the maze, saw the dinosaurs and gave the ice-cream van lady more custom than she had ever seen! Tuesday and Wednesday were art focus days, working with clay to make Egyptian artefacts and undertaking a group ‘Big Art’ project to build a Buddhist mandala. There was also some djembe drumming on the field at EPS. On Thursday, the children went to Kidzania in Westfield Shopping Centre to learn about how to live in the real world. A real world where adults are, apparently, banned! Children had to earn money by taking jobs around the city. These included: estate agents, shop-workers, ambulance and fire crew, chocolatiers, smoothie makers, t.v crew, radio presenters, actors, singers, catwalk models, engineers and beauticians. Finally, Friday was pizza design and making (and eating!) with a dodgeball tournament or instrumental music session in the afternoon. It was a fun week, but we’re all looking forward to having all of Year 6 back together.
