As part of our current Thematic topic ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’, Year 6 have been learning all about rivers. We have studied the River Nile and why it was so important to the Ancient Egyptians as well as looking at the pros and cons of dams and how the Aswan dam changed life in modern Egypt. In order to further our geographical understanding, we have also studied the process of rivers and how this changes their shape including investigating deposition, erosion and the formation of ox-bow lakes. Finally, we have been looking at our very own great river, the River Thames. We have been finding out all about the various bridges, tunnels and famous landmarks along the River Thames.
