In Ancient Egypt, artists always portrayed their Gods, Pharaohs and the ordinary people carrying out their jobs in profile – from the side. Additionally, their artwork frequently adorned sandstone buildings which were rough and sandy in texture. Year 6 have been studying how they created this unique style of art. We have been learning how to draw a face in profile using guidelines to help produce a realistically proportioned face. We have also been mixing sand with paint to create a textured surface on which to draw our Egyptian-style, profile faces. This has been a challenging art project for the children but they have shown amazing perseverance to create some wonderful front covers for their Thematic books. We hope you enjoy looking at them.
