It was great to see all our children and families back this week across all the schools in the Trust and Thornton Heath Nursery School. We hope you all had a good break and feel fully rested for the term ahead. The Trust has had a busy ‘holiday’ with improvements taking place to dangerous floor surfaces at Cypress Upper and a revamp of the entrance area at ‘Little Cypress’ – where the old Children’s Centre desk has been made into a very useful cupboard! We have also cleaned up the Upper School garden at the back of Cypress Upper in order to give more play space for children there when summer arrives. All foliage removed was chipped and will be reused onsite. Suzanne Christopher and her Extended Services team have also been busy transferring the payment system for lunches for Ecclesbourne Primary School (EPS) to the ‘MyPlay/Magic Booking’ service (instead of ‘ParentPay’) and now for the first time at any of our schools ALL payments at EPS can be made through just one system. Once we have ironed out the last remaining glitches at EPS all schools in the Trust will move to a similar arrangement.
January is normally a quiet month but this year Thornton Heath is set to host a very special event in Thornton Heath on Saturday 27th January when an art installation from Lumiere London will appear, for one night only, in Trumble Gardens, Brigstock Road, CR7. You can read all about the event by clicking this link. The children at our Brigstock Road site and Whitehorse Manor Junior School (Years 4 & 5) will be taking part in this festival by contributing to the display aided by a local artist, Karen Barnett, who works in many of our schools running art activity clubs. They will be making ‘Festoon Chandeliers’ and are appealing for plastic bottles as the base material for the artwork. If you have any bottles please drop them in to our Brigstock Road site or Whitehorse Manor Juniors 8AM-5PM Monday to Friday.
Parents of children applying for a Reception place at any of our schools in September 2018 should be aware that the last date for applications is the 15th January. It has been a real pleasure meeting so many parents and carers on our tours of the PAT schools in the autumn term – literally hundreds of parents have looked around our schoos and some have told us that they will put a number of PAT schools as choices. The positive feedback is most welcome. Applications can only be made online and if you have not already done so you can apply here. Parents of children in Year 2 at Whitehorse Manor Infants and Beulah Infants will also need to apply for a place at Whitehorse Juniors and Beulah Juniors as there is NO AUTOMATIC TRANSFER from these Infant Schools to the associated Junior School. All children will get a place but need to apply in order to do so using this link.
Next a request to parents and carers who have a child attending, or HAD a child who attended, Whitehorse Manor Infant School. Due to the way Google works we can’t get our information box for Whitehorse INFANTS to show on the right hand side in Google, where Whitehorse Juniors shows instead. This is because Whitehorse Juniors has been on Google longer and has more reviews. We desperately need parents or carers to leave a review for the Infant school using this link. The more reviews we get the better the chance of all our information showing correctly. Three parents have reviewed the school so far but we need more than ten to make the changes ‘stick’. Please take 10 minutes to help us here if you can.
Mrs. Butler, Head of School at Beulah Infants, has asked us to remind parents of KS1 and EYFS children to please remember to take advantage of our ‘Bug Club’ online learning to encourage children with their reading. The Trust pays a lot of money for this service and our usage figures have not been too high recently so how about a new year’s resolution to use this resource more at home with your child? Mrs. Butler is running a workshop in the Beulah Infants hall at 9:00AM on Thursday 25th January to give more information about how you can work alongside your child using Bug Club. Don’t forget that our forthcoming events are constantly updated on our online calendar.
That’s a quick update of all that’s happening around the Trust as we move into 2018. All that remains is for us to wish you a happy and prosperous new year. Thanks for reading.
