The children at EPS downed tools today for a day of learning without any pens or pencils. The children took part in a wide range of activities but they weren’t allowed to do any written recording of their learning. This offered the children the opportunity to work collaboratively, develop their speech and language skills, use their reasoning and applying skills and learn through physical activity. The children found it was a really interesting way to approach the school day. The teachers tried to get by without their pens today as well but some of them found it hard and had to be reminded by the children. It was such a success that we shall be thinking about more ways to learn without writing everything down. We’ll also be having another ‘ No Pens Day’ in the spring term.
