Children at many Croydon schools were invited to complete posters for the launch of Black History Month in Croydon, the theme being ‘Heroes to Heritage’. After a careful selection process, a group of students from Whitehorse Juniors, whose posters were chosen, were invited to attend the launch event at Speroni’s restaurant at Selhurst Park football stadium. There was quite a guest list of notables (including our children!) with the Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Bernadette Khan, in attendance and hosted by Andrew Brown of the Croydon BME Forum. The children enjoyed listening to the great and the good describing who their personal hero was. And then, to make a great night better, Sumaya Quraishi’s (6OM) poster was chosen as the overall winner. Well done to all our children who represented us so well and our thanks to Magdalene Adenaike, of Music Relief, for inviting our children to participate and arranging their attendance on the night.
