We were very lucky to have some ‘virtual’ visits from some of the members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra this week.
The children in Red, Yellow and Green Class met Lucica who showed us her violin and how to play it. She performed some beautiful music from Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ and the children pretended they were walking through autumn leaves, throwing snowballs, splashing in puddles and flying like a bird.
Purple Class met Carolyn who showed us her viola. She showed the children how to play the viola and played some rhythms on it for them to clap back. She then played some music from Grieg’s ‘The Hall of the Mountain King’ from Peer Gynt. The children had fun conducting her as she played.
Lilac and Indigo met Mike who also plays the viola. He showed the children lots of other instruments from the orchestra too, which was really interesting. Some children were lucky enough to conduct Mike as he played ‘The Sailor’s Hornpipe’. It was great fun! Mike then played some music from Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and they pretended to be the different characters from the story as he played the music on his viola.
It was a fabulous experience for the children to hear music being played live and to learn about the instruments and music that an orchestra plays.
